In recent years, the remote kingdom of Bhutan has increasingly attracted the attention of the world. In 2008, it emerged as the world’s youngest democracy. Today, it continues to enchant the world as the travel industry’s best kept secret with its policy of Gross National Happiness. Bhutan remains to this day one of the most sought after destinations on earth.
GETTING TO BHUTAN
The Kingdom of Bhutan remained largely isolated until the early 1960’s. Entering the country was difficult as it was only accessible by foot from the Northern route of Tibet, and from the South through the plains of Assam and West Bengal. Today carefully planned economic development has made the country easier to reach through a network of roads, as well as one international and multiple domestic airports.
All tourists planning travel to Bhutan require a visa, and must book their trip through a Bhutanese tour operator. The tour operator will take care of Visa arrangements for visitors.
