The crystal clear rivers of Bhutan are fast becoming top selling adventure tours. Bhutan’s pristine rivers are fed by the glacial-melt of the Eastern Himalayas, 6 major rivers (Wang Chhu, Sunkosh, Puna Tsang Chhu, Mangde Chhu, Kuri Chhu and Dangme Chhu and their tributaries), have been successfully scouted for kayaking and rafting. Adventurous travelers will not be disappointed by the activities that can be arranged for both family and friends. The rivers are abudnant with currents varying between slow, gentle flows in some places and powerful, raging torrents.
The river courses available in Bhutan offer something for all visitors, regardless of experience: There are easy routes for beginners and hair-raising runs for the veterans. Besides the rafts and the kayaks, we also integrate hiking and camping along the scenic river banks. The best time for rafting and kayaking is from March to April and November to December. It is also fun to include some bicycling on this trip.
We recommend the valley of Punakha with two most prized rivers Po Chhu and Mo Chhu to challenge you. A rafting tour or overnight camping near Po Chhu, followed by a day of rafting next day is an absolute treat. Water levels in the month of May and October are high and low in the winter months of January and February. Guides are well trained in safety measures. Having said that, ensure that all safety measures are undertaken and most importantly, follow your guide’s instruction very carefully.
An experienced rafting crew will be dedicated to your group and make all the necessary arrangements for your comfort and care.
